A.J. Greer and Eetu Luostarinen tallied short-handed goals on the same penalty kill as the visiting Florida Panthers opened a home-and-home series with three special-teams scores, beating the Tampa Bay Lightning 4-2 on Sunday.

Nikita Kucherov scored before he was ejected for kneeing Matthew Tkachuk, and the Tampa Bay Lightning beat the Florida Panthers 4-0 in a chippy game.

Including April’s playoffs, the Panthers topped Tampa Bay for the ninth time in 11 games (9-2-0) and improved to 14-0-0 when leading after two periods.

Greer put the Panthers ahead 2-1 at 10:28 of the second period on the penalty kill after defenseman Uvis Balinskis was called for interference against Nick Paul. Greer stripped Nikita Kucherov of the puck and finished off an odd-man rush by scoring off the rebound of a shot from Tomas Nosek.

Sam Reinhart put the Panthers on the board first with a power-play goal, by redirecting the puck off a shot from Aaron Ekblad. The Lightning responded with Nick Paul scoring a goal just a few seconds before the buzzer,

And while Sam Reinhart leads the way with four individual shorthanded goals — as many as any other team in the NHL — Florida has seven players total who have found the back of the net on the penalty kill this season.
