The financial failure of “Kraven” stung more after “Madame Web,” starring Dakota Johnson, flopped, taking home only $100 million, and “Venom: The Last Dance” became the lowest grossing film in the franchise. Of “Madame Web,” Vinciquerra blames film critics for its failure.

Sony CEO Tony Vinciquerra says Madame Web and Kraven the Hunter were not bad movies, and the critics caused them to fail at the box office.

Sony’s Kraven the Hunter is now in theaters, and whether fans love or hate what the studio made, it’s officially part of Sony’s checkered history. The character almost made his big screen debut for Marvel a few years back,

Outgoing Sony Pictures CEO Tony Vinciquerra has claimed Madame Web fared poorly at the box office “because the press just crucified it”. Vinciquerra, who is stepping down on 2 January, insisted that the superhero film starring Dakota Johnson and Sydney Sweeney wasn’t bad at all.

"For some reason, the press decided that they didn’t want us making these films out of 'Kraven' and 'Madame Web,' and the critics just destroyed them."

Kraven the Hunter bombing seemed like it could be the nail in the coffin for the Sony Spider-Man Universe (that doesn’t have Spider-Man). Madame Web opened the year with disappointing totals. Then Venom: The Last Dance also performed poorly relative to the previous Venom films.
