The U.S. State Department said on Saturday a Maryland resident deported to El Salvador is "alive and secure" in a terrorism confinement center there, after a U.S. Judge demanded updates on the Trump administration's efforts to secure his return.

A federal immigration official acknowledged last week that the removal of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a Maryland man, to El Salvador was an "administrative error."
