The deal was contingent on BLM making changes to a separate Wyoming land-use plan, which the incoming Trump administration could further change.

After a decades-long effort, Wyoming gave final approval for selling state-owned land located within national park boundaries.

The closure means the Kelly parcel transaction overcame headwinds from some Wyoming officials who sought to stop the sale and wait for a better deal from the incoming Trump administration. The Wyoming Freedom Caucus promised to overturn the authorization in the next legislative session, which is set to start Jan. 14.

The Kelly parcel is just 1 square mile of rolling hills and aspen groves at the doorstep of one of America’s great national parks, Grand Teton in Wyoming. But don’t be fooled by the sagebrush: This piece of property is something special.

The $100 million from the sale of the so-called Kelly Parcel can be used by Wyoming to purchase other federal lands and minerals within the state.

The federal government is buying what’s known as the Kelly parcel, 640 acres of land that Wyoming held in its state school trust.
