Formula 1's competitive order might be dictated by engine power with the new rule change in 2026, according to new Aston Martin designer Adrian Newey.

Adrian Newey has warned that F1's upcoming regulation changes could result in the sport becoming an 'engine formula'.

While Newey's arrival has sparked much excitement, Alonso has already called for a dose of realism, suggesting it will be at least another 12 months before they are ready to challenge consistently at the top of the order.

"If the advantage is on the combustion engine side, someone can develop a dominant engine that is maintained for the entire duration of the formula," he explained. "But if the advantage is on the electric side, there is much more scope to make up ground if you are behind."
