Now, the Yankees have a lost year-plus with Cole, who will aim to return when he’s 35. According to ESPN MLB insider Buster Olney, the Yankees could recoup around 75% of Cole’s contract after taking out insurance, but the $36 million annually (for four more years) will still count against their luxury tax.
