The Boston Red Sox and St. Louis Cardinals have been in discussions on and off all offseason regarding a potential trade for third baseman Nolan Arenado, and now that spring training is opening across baseball,

St. Louis Cardinals third baseman Nolan Arenado will be traded to either the Boston Red Sox or New York Yankees, according to an MLB Network baseball insider.

Nolan Arenado is still on the trade block and the Red Sox seem to have slipped away. Here's the latest update on Arenado's future.

The Red Sox should finish their offseason by making a trade for Nolan Arenado to fill out their infield and lineup.

Arenado's preferred list of trade destinations included the Los Angeles Angels, Los Angeles Dodgers, Boston Red Sox, San Diego Padres, Philadelphia Phillies and New York Mets. While New York has shown a willingness to be aggressive,

"With the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers seen as long shots to make a move for Arenado, an eight-time All-Star third baseman," wrote Jeff Passan of ESPN, "the (Boston) Red Sox remain the landing spot that makes the most sense ."

The Boston Red Sox reportedly are iffy about making a trade for Nolan Arenado with the St. Louis Cardinals ahead of the season.

Arenado told Cardinals president of baseball operations John Mozeliak he’d accept a trade to one of five teams: the Los Angeles Dodgers, Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, San Diego Padres, and Houston Astros.
