The Baltimore Orioles have made a few key moves this offseason. They signed Tyler O'Neill to a three-year, $49.5 million contract and also brought in Gregory Soto, Charlie Morton and Tomoyuki Sugano.

The 30-year-old Burnes — who is originally from California — moved to Arizona in 2018 when he played for the Milwaukee Brewers, partially so he could be close to the Brewers’ spring training facility. He and his family liked the area so much they stayed, and it was a big factor in his decision to sign with the Diamondbacks.

Mateo, one of MLB’s fastest players, joined the Orioles in 2021 as a former top prospect seeking to establish himself in the big leagues. He was one of the best defensive shortstops in 2022 and has been a relied-upon role player — despite his offensive struggles — over the past two seasons.

When the D-backs signed top-of-the-line starting pitcher Corbin Burnes to a six-year, $210 million contract on Dec. 30, much of the baseball world was stunned.
