The Trump administration must move Tufts University graduate student Rumeysa Ozturk to Vermont from a Louisiana detention center, a federal appeals court ruled. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit on Wednesday upheld a Vermont judge’s order to transfer her to the state where her case is unfolding.

A Tufts University student from Turkey has returned to Boston after being released from a Louisiana immigration detention center.

Rümeysa Öztürk, who was arrested by ICE for writing an op-ed, must be moved from the Louisiana detention center where she’s being held to Vermont, a federal appeals court ruled. The 2nd US Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that Öztürk must be detained in Vermont while a federal judge determines whether to release her from ICE custody.
